The Tees Transporter Bridge has been an iconic landmark since opening in 1911, and is the longest working transporter bridge in the world, representing Teesside's engineering and industrial heritage. The restoration of the bridge secured a National Lottery Heritage Lottery grant, and HERA were appointed as Project Monitors and Expert Advisers for the project which comprised the installation of a glass viewing lift, allowing for improved access to the upper walkway, renovation of the gondola and the development of a visitor centre.
HERA’s expertise of monitoring National Lottery Heritage Fund projects, delivered expert advice on the funding applications, and project monitoring during the capital delivery phase and associated activities to enhance this iconic structural heritage landmark as a tourist destination. Advising on cashflow, programme, procurement, and ensuring the approved purposes of the lottery funding were appropriately adhered to.
