HERA were appointed to provide Project Monitor support when the Winckley Square Gardens restoration project was awarded a Development Phase grant, providing professional advice and support to the applicant on behalf of the National Lottery Heritage Fund as the applicant worked towards their Round 2 application. We provided specialist expert advice on the application for grant and were retained as Project Monitors during the Deliver Phase, following the successful award of grant, monitoring cashflow, programme, and ensure the approved purposes of the grant were delivered.
This project underwent changes during its development, to actively interpret the historic landscape of these Georgian Gardens at the edge of the Town Centre of Preston, celebrating the historic significance of the garden, address key issues, and encourage wider use of the gardens. The project actively interpreted the relationship the gardens had with the adjacent houses which surround the square. Innovative interpretation was developed to inform of the linkages between the gardens and houses, and prominent residents who once lived on the square.
